  1. Change gears efficiently - Change as soon as appropriate, higher gears burn less fuel.
  2. Avoid hard braking: keep a safe distance
  3. Check your tyer pressure regularlyensure that they are correctly inflated according to specification;
  4. Avoid carrying excess weight: Use bigger cars for big luggage;
  5. Avoid idling with engine on: it burns fuel unecessarily.
  6. Avoid constant air-conditioning: use it in intervals when necessary just to regulate temperature.
  7. Keep the car service up to date: using an unserviced car can increase your consumption by 50%.
  8. Not to speed: greater wind resistance and may lead to hard braking
  9. Correct fuel: Ensure you use the the correct fuel for the car as specified by manufacturer
  10. Use trailers when necessary: Trailers pull back the car and so use more power and fuel.

One of the leading refineries in South Africa has closed 1 of their units for a shutdown.

Despite the carefull plans and procedures in place, 5 potentially fatal incidents have occured within a period of only 72 hours. This is an alarming statistic and hope there isnt more to come.
